Apple iPhone 5S specs and features officially announced

Apple has finally lifted covers off their latest offerings on Tuesday at an event in California. Apple has launched two models this year namely – the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C. The iPhone 5S is the high-end device and the iPhone 5C is the low-end model. Looks like Apple is all set to compete with the low end Android devices for the first time with the announcement of iPhone 5C.

The device is made of high-grade aluminum and has chamfered edges. And will sold in three color versions including Silver, Gold and “Space Grey.”

The device will have Apple A7 64-bit chip – the first smartphone in the world to have a 64-bit “desktop class” CPU. The company says it will offer a 40x CPU performance and 56x faster graphics than the original smartphone. It can run both 32-bit and 64-bit apps. Apple M7 motion coprocessor will be there for continuously measuring motion data from the accelerometer, gyroscope and compass.

It will have a 4-inch Retina display and an 8-megapixel camera with larger f2.2 aperture. Apart from that it will have two-LED flash with 15% larger sensor area, 720p video recording at 120fps and iOS7 optimizations for better pictures.

The device will come with the latest offering of iOS in the form of iOS7 and will come in 16/32/64 GB storage. On the network front, it will have more LTE bands and will support 802.11 a/b/g/n dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz).

The most attractive feature that sounds is a fingerprint scanner in the Home button. This feature can be used to unlock the handset. Additionally it can perform various tasks according to the need in apps and support for multiple fingerprints is also included. The Home button is made of laser-cut sapphire crystal with a stainless steel detection ring around it. Fingerprint software protects fingerprint with encryption and its not stored on Apple’s servers.

Coming to the battery, it comes with bigger capacity battery lasting 10 hours on LTE and Wi-f0i and 250 hours of standby. The iPhone 5S will be available from September 20 and will cost $199 (16GB), $299 (32GB) and $399 (64GB). Special cases are also available for $39.
