How to Update Motorola Droid 4 to Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 with Avatar ROM

Motorola Droid 4 XT894 users can now experience the latest Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 on their device with the nightly release of Avatar 3.0.1 custom ROM firmware. JB 4.2.2 hasn’t been officially announced and hence users who want to experience it can use this guide to experience the latest features, apps and new capabilities.

But just before we can proceed with the update, it is highly recommended to take note of all the pre-requisites before you begin as this is not official ROM from either Motorola or Google. But it is safe to install and bug free. Take note of the pre-requisites below:

  •  As the update process will require that you root your device, you are bound to lose your warranty as the rooting process is unofficial. But you can always get back by flashing the stock Android firmware.
  • Backup all the data even though the operation involved might result in no loss of data. Also make sure you make a Nandroid backup.
  • Also make sure you have enough battery charge for the process to complete without any interruptions. Maintain about 60-70% of your battery.
  • Make sure that you have Android SDK installed on your PC and that the ADB is working. Also make sure that your phone has to on unlocked bootloader. Also you can use the CWM or TWRP Recovery for this tutorial.
  • Keep in mind that this guide is for advanced Android users for particularly Motorola Droid 4 model number XT894 and we should not be blamed for any loss of data or in case you brick your device while trying to update it.

How to Update Motorola Droid 4 to Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 with Avatar Custom ROM Firmware

    1. First Download the latest version of Avatar ROM from HERE and save it to your pc.
    2. Then Download the Google Apps package from HERE and save it to your pc.
    3. Connect your device to your pc and transfer the above downloaded files to your phone’s SD card and disconnect the device from pc.
    4. Now reboot your device into recovery mode .
    5. Then from recovery mode menu, select “wipe data factory reset”, “wipe cache partition” and “wipe dalvick cache”.
    6. Once done, from the main recovery mode menu, select “install from SD card” and choose the zip from SD card. Select and update the file first and then flash the firmware.
    7. Repeat the above step and install the Google Apps package.
    8. Once done, reboot your device by selecting “reboot system now”.
    9. There you go!! You now have Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 on your Motorola Droid 4.
