How to update Xperia Z to Official Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS

Sony Xperia Z has been a popular release from Sony last year and it can now be updated with a new version of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS with 10.3.1.A.1.10 firmware being rolled out. This is an official release and it comes with latest Jelly Bean 4.2.2 features, apps and bug fixes that steer up your smartphone’s performance and capability. The Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean 10.3.1.A.1.10 is an OTA update but just in case you haven’t received the notification on your Xperia Z, a manual update can be made.

This guide will help users to manually install the Android 4.2.2 JB 10.3.1.A.1.10 version on Xperia Z. Moreover you will be able to restore the default Android OS and hence restore the warranty back. Hence, understand clearly the above things and then proceed with the installation.

  1. Check if you have got the OTA update for this firmware version or not. And if you got it, go ahead and complete the update process or follow the steps below.
  2. Download the 10.3.1A.1.10 firmware files on your pc from here and the one from here
  3. Then you will have to download the Flashtool app from here.
  4. Then install the Flashtool on your PC and also the Xperia Z drivers.
  5. Connect your Xperia Z to the PC and place the downloaded files in the flashtoolfolder.
  6. Open flashtool and click on the lightning icon followed by “flashmode”; finally select “ok”.
  7. Then on the flashtool folder search for the .ftf firmwares and select the same.
  8. Click on the “flash” button and the update process will now begin.
  9. Wait for the process to complete without doing anything. At the end, unplug the USB cable and reboot your phone.
  10. Now go to “Settings -> About phone -> Android & Baseband version” and check whether the JB 4.2.2 10.3.1A.1.10 firmware has been applied or not.
